Greyhound Adoption Program

The Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is one of the world’s most successful adoption agencies for retired racing Greyhounds. Each year, more than 1000 of these beautiful dogs make the transition from running very fast for 30 seconds – to lying on the couch, all day…

Greyhounds can make fantastic pets – they are quiet, lazy and gentle dogs that thrive in the family home environment.

Every dog that enters the program is thoroughly temperament tested, desexed, wormed, microchipped, and vaccinated.  They then spend time with a volunteer foster carer to help them adjust from life in a kennel to life in a pet home, and only after this are they made available for adoption.

It is one of our main goals to change the negative perception many people have of greyhounds, and through a more realistic reputation, increase the public’s desire to care for these wonderful dogs after their racing careers have finished.

Our permanent adoption facility is located in Seymour, but GAP often travels to larger regional cities and suburban tracks for ‘Adoption Days’, where we take up to 36 dogs and invite the public to meet and adopt the dogs on the day.
